Asiya Chowdhury has worked at Ian Schrager Company for 10 years as Vice President of Architecture and Design. She has directed and managed multiple EDITION hotels globally for creative teams of architects, interior designers, FF&E, lighting, landscape designers.

 

She successfully led a number of EDITION hotels to the great accolades of the hospitality industry. Under her leadership, the Sanya EDITION received the “Best in Show” award in HD Awards (2017); the Shanghai EDITION was named “Best Design Hotel of the Year’ by Esquire (2019) ; the Tokyo Toranomon EDITION was a finalist “Best Luxury Hotel” in HD Awards (2021). More recently, Asiya has been involved in leadership roles in EDITION hotels in Madrid, Reykjavik, Tampa, Ginza (Tokyo), Doha, Kanai, Detroit and Milan.

 

Prior to joining Ian Schrager, Asiya  was a Vice President of  Design at Arquitectonica and a Lead Designer at Rockwellgroup in New York. She worked on many hospitality and mixed-use projects in USA, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Asiya is a member  of the AIA (American Institute of Architects) with a Masters in Architecture from MIT and a Bachelors in Architecture from BUET (Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology). With her multi-cultural background, she strives to bridge between cultures and strongly believes that a simple, sophisticated yet culturally-rooted design leads to truly unique guest experiences in hospitality.

 

To sum up her role, Asiya once told the Hospitality Design Magazine “I use the analogy of filmmaking, where I have the role of a movie director and the designers are the actors - and together we tell the unique story of the EDITION brand.”
